What are some example projects or experiences?
Corporate lawyers work in large rail organisations in the public and private sectors. They work hard to develop a deep understanding of their organisation so they can provide the best advice and support.
You could find yourself working for a construction firm, advising on contractual and compliance matters for rail infrastructure projects. Or, you could work for a freight forwarder supporting the business in areas such as safety, contracts, and liability disputes.
What is the work environment like?
You’ll work in an office, usually within a legal team.
Sometimes you’ll support different business areas to develop contracts or review proposals. Other times you’ll handle transactions or deal with regulators. You may also assist with asset purchasing, such as property or large-scale plant equipment.
Lawyers spend a lot of time at their desk, but will also participate in meetings and negotiations with external stakeholders.
If you work as a paralegal, you will spend your days assisting corporate lawyers with research, drafting legal documents, managing files, and other administrative support.
You can find work as a lawyer all around Australia. Most jobs are in cities and towns. Some are in remote areas.
Eligibility & pathways
To be a lawyer you must complete a Bachelor of Laws. You will then need to complete practical training, and apply to the Supreme Court for admission as a lawyer.
To be a paralegal, you usually need to complete a certificate or diploma in legal services.
